The Importance and Benefits of Protein

One of the most basic foundations of health is getting in enough ᴘʀᴏᴛᴇɪɴ each and every day! Suffice to say that protein is in every tissue in the body, not just muscle tissue, so let's dive into more of the specifics of its role and function in the body.
𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗶𝗻 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁?
💪🏻 It’s one of the building blocks that make you into who you are
💪🏻 More than 10,000 types of protein are found in everything from your muscles and tissues to your organs, to your hormones, to your bones, skin, and hair
💪🏻 Protein is a crucial part of the processes that carry oxygen throughout your body in your blood, as well as fuel your energy
𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗶𝗻
🌟 𝘐𝘵'𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘮𝘰𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘪𝘤 𝘮𝘢𝘤𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘶𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘵. This means your body burns more calories digesting protein than it does carbs or fats. You can consider eating protein as a boost for your metabolism, and when consumed consistently over time, this can have quite an impact on your metabolic rate.
🌟 𝘐𝘵 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘴𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘵𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘬𝘦𝘦𝘱𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘶𝘭𝘭 𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘳. Protein reduces your level of the hunger hormone called ghrelin, allowing you to feel full and satiated throughout the day. This is especially important because it helps keep your blood sugar and insulin levels steady, as opposed to dropping and spiking, which leads to cravings and lightheadedness.
🌟 𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘪𝘯 𝘢𝘪𝘥𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘮𝘶𝘴𝘤𝘭𝘦 𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘵𝘩 & 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺. It helps build and strengthen our muscles after intense workouts. When we are resistance training in the gym, we are breaking down muscle tissues— protein helps us repair and recover these tissues in an effort to make them stronger. Combining regular activity and exercise with adequate protein intake promotes muscle growth and the most optimal recovery.
🌟𝘐𝘵 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘯 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘯 𝘮𝘶𝘴𝘤𝘭𝘦 𝘵𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘶𝘦. If you’re in a weight loss phase and you’re only focused on eating less calories as opposed to prioritizing protein WHILE eating in a calorie deficit, 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 once you reach the weight you’re aiming for. Because, again, you will have also lost muscle tissue and appear what some may refer to as “skinny fat” or not as lean as you’d hoped.
